Thank you for your request, received on 29 June 2020, for the following information under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Can I please have details on the amount of funding the TEC provides to each of the
fol owing tertiary institutions, and the percentage it has increased/decreased each year
including and since 2008, adjusting for inflation.
If you are not able to give me the exact details on funding, could I please get the figure of
the percentage shifts in funding since 2008 adjusting for inflation for each of the
universities for each year from 2008 til 2019. Also the average percentage difference in
funding between the highest funded university as stated below and the lowest funded
university as state below for the year 2019. And assuming the percentage shift difference
in funding each year for each university wil be different, then the difference in
percentage shift in funding between the highest funded university as stated below and
the lowest funded university as state below for the year 2019.
1) University of Auckland
2) University of Otago
3) Victoria, University of Wellington
4) University of Canterbury
The Tertiary Education Commission’s (TEC) Ministerial Team, wrote to you on 30 June 2020 to advise
that the funding information for 2013 to 2019 is publicly available on our website and asked if this
answered your request.
As the TEC has not received a response from you, I am releasing to you a spreadsheet under
Appendix A. The spreadsheet provides you with the funding amounts broken down by fund type for
the four requested universities mentioned above and the percentage increase/decrease per year. All
fund allocations are already adjusted each year to include inflation and the TEC does not record the
inflation amount separately, therefore I am unable to provide you with the inflation amount per
year.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
freephone 0800 802 602.
The TEC intends to publish its response to this request on our website with your personal details
removed. Consistent with the Act, we are publishing responses in the interests of transparency and
accountability, and to improve access to official information.
