Dear Huda,
Please find a response to your Official Information Act request of 21 June 2020 regarding
information for general entry to the medical (MB ChB) programme at University of Otago for the last
Six (6) years (2015 - 2020).
This response communicates the University’s decision to provide some of the data you requested.
Please find below, responses to three of your questions.
In addition to these answers, the rest of the information wil be provided without undue delay.
Please note however, that data prior to 2017 is not held central y in our Student Management
System. To col ate the information you seek for 2015 and 2016 would take a substantial period of
time and is therefore declined pursuant to section 18(f) of the Official Information Act. Subject to
this condition, we anticipate the additional responses being available by 7 August at the latest.
1. Minimum number of seats available each year (for both first year and graduate)
There are no set minimum numbers for the places available in the three domestic admission
categories for the MB ChB at the University of Otago (Health Sciences First Year, Graduate, and
Alternative categories). In total there are 282 places that are filled each year.
2. Number of applicants offered interviews each year (for both first year and graduate)
There are no interviews conducted for either Health Sciences First Year or Graduate selection in the
MB ChB.
3. Interview core GPA cut-off (for both first year and graduate)
As per (2), there are no interviews for either Health Sciences First Year or Graduate places in the MB
ChB.
4. Number of applicants each year (for both first year and graduate)

6. Lowest core GPA for successful applicants (for both first year and graduate)
7. Lower quartile core GPA for successful applicants (for both first year and graduate)
8. Median core GPA for successful applicants (for both first year and graduate)

10. Highest core GPA for unsuccessful applicants (for both first year and graduate)

both first year and graduate
As above, responses for these questions will be provided for the period 2017 – 2020 as soon as
practicable.
