Thank you for your email of 27 May 2020, requesting information about the 
Department of Corrections’ revenue and expenditure. Your request has been 
considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
 
You requested: 
 
A respectable international website company Dun and Bradstreet are 
reporting the revenue for Dept of Corrections, Wellington, New Zealand 
as $1 trillion. Please explain to me how this money is earned or sourced 
and how it is spent. In short I would like a full disclosure of this revenue. 

 
The information you have referred to is incorrect.  
 
Corrections’ Annual Reports contain a ‘Statement of Comprehensive Revenue 
and Expense’ for the financial year that includes a breakdown of Corrections’ 
total operating revenue and expenses, which in the 2018/19 financial year 
totaled $1.6969 and $1.699 billion respectively. For the most recent available 
statement, you may refer to page 99 of Corrections’ Annual Report 2018/19, at:
