I refer to your official information request received on 28 April 2020 for:

• Approx. 150 Crown entity subsidiaries
Can you please provide the name of these “150 Other Crown Entity Subsidiaries”.
Information being released
Crown Entity Subsidiaries are established and disestablished by their parent entity/entities and
not by Parliament or Cabinet, therefore the State Services Commission does not hold an up to
date list of Crown Entities subsidiaries. These are entities that are control ed by one or more
parent Crown entities, generally indicated by majority shareholding.
In October 2018, the State Services Commission undertook to compile a list of Crown Entity
Subsidiaries from the Companies Register on the Ministry of Business, Innovation and
Employment’s (MBIE’s) website at that time.  I am providing you with a copy of that list – please
note that this list has not been updated and may no longer be accurate.

Shareholding information can be found by searching through the Companies Register on
MBIE’s website which can be found here.  The register does not classify companies by Crown
entity or by subsidiary. However, you can verify an individual company’s shareholding as
indicated in the register by searching by company name. Note that Crown entities may have a
minority shareholding in a company or companies, but these companies are not Crown entity
subsidiaries if the total shareholding by Crown entities is only minority.
Each Crown Entity’s annual report should also include information about their subsidiaries in
the ‘notes to the financial statements’ section of the report. The parent entity must provide
consolidated information that includes its subsidiaries, which do not provide a separate annual
report.
