Tena koe Tania,
Thank you for your recent query about how many Māori women applied for – and were
appointed to – tier 1 or 2 roles over the last 3 years.
We do not currently collect ethnicity information during our recruitment process, so
cannot give you an accurate response to your query about applicants.
In terms of appointments, we currently have 3 women in tier 1 or 2 roles, including our
Chief Executive. One of our current tier 2 appointments classifies her ethnicity as Māori.
No other Māori women were appointed to tier 1 or 2 roles in the last 3 years.
From a quick look at your website, I can see you may have a wider interest in our work
with Māori and iwi, and our effort as an organisation to improve outcomes for Māori. If
you would like to discuss our broader programme, or our wider work on enhancing
diversity and inclusion, please let me know (021 370 869;
[email address]) and I
would be very pleased to facilitate a discussion or meeting with the right people.
As you likely know, you have the right to seek an investigation and review by the
Ombudsman of our response to your request. Information about how to make a
complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Thank you for your interest in our work.
Ngā mihi
Peter Alsop
