Thank you for your request of 16 March 2020, asking for the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
We seek information on the number of covered work related gradual process injury claims for 
osteoarthritis  as a degenerative condition caused by truck drivers (delivery) in the time period 
between 2010 and 2019 
 
Cover for work-related gradual process injuries is determined by ACC’s legislation 
As you are aware, ACC provides cover for work-related gradual process, disease and infection (WRGPDI) 
in accordance with section 30 of the Accident Compensation Act 2001.  
 
Notes about the data provided 
The data has been extracted for accepted WRGPDI claims lodged with ACC between 1 January 2010 and 
25 March 2020, where the industry the client worked in was recorded as Road freight transport, and the 
claim included a read code or ICD9/ICD10 code that contained the word osteoarthritis.   
 
Notes about the data in general: 
•  A calendar year is 1 January to 31 December. 
•  Accredited employer claims have been included. 
•  The data was extracted on 25 March 2020 and may differ if extracted at a later date. 
 
Number of WRGPDI claims for osteoarthritis in truck drivers 
ACC has identified fewer than four WRGPDI claims for osteoarthritis in truck drivers, between the 2010 
and 2020 calendar year to date (21 March 2020). None of these claims were for osteoarthritis of the 
knee. 
 
ACC takes privacy seriously  
ACC does not routinely release low value numbers. Accordingly, we are only able to advise that the 
number of claims was fewer than four. This limits the potential for particular individuals or matters 
specific to certain individuals from being identified. Withholding in this way is necessary to protect the 
privacy of individuals under section 9(2)(a) of the Act. In doing so, we considered the public interest in 
making the information available and determined that it did not outweigh the need to protect the 
individuals’ privacy.
