Auckland Feminism 2020 event.
Thank you for your email which we received on 2 December 2019 about the Feminism 2020
Event. I apologise for the delay in our response. Your request and our response are set out
below.
Please provide al internal and external correspondence and communications
regarding Speak Up For Women and the Auckland Feminism 2020 event.
Please also provide any documentation pertaining to this group and event
also.
Attachment 1 contains this written correspondence, documentation and communications. In
addition to the attached information some verbal discussions took place among staff
members with relevant responsibilities in regard to this event. As these were not formal
meetings, no minutes were recorded. The public statement made by our Chief Executive –
see page 31, is a fair and accurate summary of these internal discussions.
The following information has been withheld from the attached pursuant to the followings
sections of the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA):
•
Section 7(2)(a) - some names, contact details and identifiable information members
of the public have been redacted to protect their privacy.

Section 7(2)(f)(i) – the options paper and the revised version prepared by Manager
Community Places and draft statements prepared by Head of Diversity and Inclusion
have been withheld and removed to maintain the effective conduct of public of affairs
through the free and frank expressions of opinion by or between or to members or
officers or employees acting in the course of their duty;
•
Section 7(2)(g) – all correspondence from council’s legal team have been redacted
or removed to maintain legal professional privilege.

Section 7(2)(f)(i ) – We have redacted staff names, job titles and contact details and
some names and contact details of parties who have corresponded with us. We have
done this to protect staff from undue pressure or harassment. We have made this
decision because this correspondence wil be published online and we believe it is
likely that some of these people may be targeted inappropriately for unfair and public
criticism.
•
Section 7(2)(c)(i) – some internal correspondence relating to communication draft
statements and correspondence with council’s partner rainbow organisations in the
revised options paper have also been withheld and removed, where withholding is
necessary to protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence
where the making the information available would be likely to prejudice the supply of
similar information.
We have also made the decision to withhold under this section, correspondence in
which the writers express their personal opinions and objections to this event being
held in an Auckland Council venue This correspondence consists of emails from
members of the public, people who have professional or working relationships with
Auckland Council and Auckland Council staff
We consulted with those involved in this correspondence who expressed concerns
that the publication of the information may result in their words being taken out of
context and republished elsewhere. They told us they felt it would be a breach of
confidence for the council to release this information and they would be unlikely to
feel safe in sharing this type information with the council in the future.
