Establishment of the Board
The Social Wellbeing Board (formerly the Social Investment Board) was initially established by
Cabinet on 10 April 2017.
Members of the Social Wellbeing Board
Current membership of the Board includes the chief executives of the Ministries of Health,
Education, Justice, Social Development, and Housing and Urban Development, the Department
of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Te Puni Kōkiri, Oranga Tamariki and New Zealand Police.
Chair of the Board
The State Services Commissioner has acted as the Chair of the Board since its establishment.
Purpose of the Social Wellbeing Board
The purpose of the Social Wellbeing Board is to lead a collective approach across the State
sector working on cross-cutting issues to improve the social wellbeing of current and future New
Zealanders.

We have identified the documents listed in the table below within scope of your request:

We have decided to release the documents listed above, subject to information being withheld
under one or more of the following sections of the OIA, as applicable:

• section 9(2)(f)(ii ) – the political neutrality of officials
• section 9(2)(f)(i) – the confidentiality of communications by or with the Sovereign or her

Ministers of the Crown or members of an organisation or officers and employees of a

We are finalising the consultation required with all the relevant agencies, before these
documents can be released to you on 11 February 2020.
