Dear John

Official information request for salary band information for internationally
posted staff

I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated 19 November 2019.

Each of your requests, and the University’s response, is set out below.

“I would like to request the salary band for all international posts, in particular
your office in China and their relevant benefit documents, (e.g.
medical/international travel/accommodation etc.) for example, beside their
salary, what else they will get/ peaks etc.”

There are four positions at the University that are covered by your request. The University
has withheld details of the specific packages offered to the four individuals in these
positions under section 9(2)(a) of the Act in order to protect the privacy of these
individuals.

However, in general terms, the salaries paid for these four positions are between
$60,000-$95,000NZD. These positions also receive benefits as part of their package,
which, depending on the position, can include health insurance, and travel and
accommodation relevant to their position.

Please note, the University does not have an ‘office in China’. There are two positions that
are stationed in China, which are included in this request. However, there is no office.

“If possible I would also like to request your org chart for your international
office and your office in China.”

Attached is the organisational chart for Wellington University International. As stated
above, the University does not have an office in China. However, one of the positions
located in China is featured in the attachment. The other position does not sit in
Wellington University International.

You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of the
University’s decision to withhold information from your response. Information about
how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone
0800 802 602.

If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact me at
[VUW request email].

Yours sincerely
