Dear Mr Polglase
Local Government Official Information and Meeting Act Request
I refer to your Local Government Official Information and Meeting Act 1987 (LGOIMA) request made
by email on 15 July 2019 seeking information in relation to the ‘Darfield Sewerage Investigation
Rate’.
We respond to each of your questions as follows:
When the Darfield Sewerage Investigation Rate charge was first levied?
The Darfield Sewerage Investigation Targeted Rate was introduced in July 2009 following
consultation on the Council's Long Term Council Community Plan 2009-2019. The rate was
introduced to fund the costs associated with investigating one of the Council’s key issues, whether
or not to install reticulated sewerage in Darfield.
How much this rate has raised?
Since it was introduced the rate has raised $620,597 (excluding GST).
What has it been spent on?
The funds have been spent on ground water monitoring, modelling the impact of wastewater on
groundwater quality, developing strategies and options for the treatment of wastewater, public
consultation processes and costs associated with the proposed treatment site should this be the
option selected. The balance remaining (i.e. unspent) on the Darfield Sewerage account is
$302,615.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact the writer on telephone
(03) 3472 800.
Yours faithfully
Greg Bell
