Tēnā koe,

Thank you for your request made under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act 1987 (the Act), received on 9 June 2019. You requested the following information:

•  May I please view a copy of the 2019 Code of Conduct that City Council members
are asked to commit to
•  May I please see any legal advice sought on this Code of Conduct and any meeting
minutes relevant to updating it

All councils are required to have a code of conduct under the Local Government Act 2002 and
provide guidance on the standards of behaviour that are expected from the Mayor and elected
members.

I have attached the current Elected Members Code of Conduct. This is also available on our
website at the following link: https://wellington.govt.nz/~/media/your-council/mayor-and-
councillors/files/elected-codeofconduct.pdf.

In regards to the 2019 code of conduct, we have not yet begun the review process, so we have not
obtained legal advice or organised any official meetings. In line with section 17(e) of the Act; I
refuse these parts of the request as the information does not exist.

Wellington City Council will formally review the code as soon as practicable after the beginning of
the next triennium. This will be available at the link provided above.

Right of Review
If you disagree with my  decision you have the right, under section 27(3) of the Act, to ask the
Ombudsman to review and investigate my decision. Further information is available on the
Ombudsman website, www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

Thank you again for your request and please let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,
