Official information Request:
Dear Aarti
Thank you for your request for official information, received on 4 June 2019. This response is coming from
the Mental Health, Addictions & Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS 3DHB).
Question:
What is the number and percentage (the total being full number of funded positions) of your vacancies in
mental health doctors (registrars and consultants) in 2018 and 2019?
Is there a strategic plan in place to increase the numbers of mental health doctors, given the increased
demands for mental health services, and the recent government budget announcements?
Response:
We have chosen two points of time, April 2018 and April 2019. In MHAIDS we have 100 FTE Consultants,
Medical Officers and Resident Medial Officers.
In April 2018 there were a total of 5 vacancies and April 2019 a total of 9 Vacancies.
Our recruitment strategy to recruit doctors has not changed with the recent budget announcements. We
continue to use our in-house recruitment specialists to attract doctors both locally and overseas, and have
worked hard at ensuring we remain as competitive as possible, whilst ensuring our on boarding processes
are easy to navigate.
We trust the information we have provided meets your needs however you have the right, by way of
complaint under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act 1982 to the Office of the Ombudsman, to seek
an investigation and review of our refusal to disclose information to you as set out above. Further
information about making a complaint can be found at
