I refer to your Official Information Act request received on 17th April 2019 in which you 
specifically requested the following: 
 
The total number of assaults against nurses by members of the public from 2013-2018. How 
many assaults against nurses by members of the public, broken down by each year from 2013-
2018. So (x) total for 2013-2018(x) total for 2013(x) total for 2014(x) total for 2015(x) total for 
2016(x) total for 2017(x) total for 2018. 
 
Southern DHB changed to an electronic incident reporting system in March 2015 called 
Safety1st – the current reporting system provides a more consistent reporting approach. Prior 
to 2015, our systems were a mix of manual and paper based reporting. We are therefore 
unable to provide figures for 2013 and 2014. Please see the figures below for 2015 – 2018.
