Official Information Act request: District Court recording process & transcription
services
Thank you for your email of 29 January 2024, requesting, under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act), information relating to District Court recording process and transcription
services. Specifically, you requested:
I would like to get information about the recording process and the transcription service
of the hearings held at the District Courts.
1. Specifically I would like to know the governance process and the roles and
responsibilities relating to the recording of the hearings and the transcription service.
2. My understanding is that the recording is a relatively failsafe process. But I would
like to get some data about the number of District Court hearings that wasn't recorded
by the system (if any). (I can narrow down my request to the failed recordings in the
2022 - 2023 years.)
Pursuant to section 15(1) of the Act, the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry) has decided to
grant your request. However, it wil take us some time to prepare the information for release.
We wil send you the information by
15 March 2024 without undue delay. There are
documents being prepared for release by the Ministry. Some information is refused under
section 18(g)(i) as the information is not held by the Ministry. I apologise for any
inconvenience this delay may cause you.
If you require any further information, please contact Ministry of Justice Media & Social
Media Manager Joe Locke at
[email address].
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right to make a complaint to the
Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. The Office of the Ombudsman may be
contacted by email at [email address] or by phone on 0800 802 602.
