I am writing to you in response to your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request
submitted on 11 March 2019. You requested:
(1) The total number of times a firearm has been directed towards an offender
(1,a) A breakdown of the ethnicity of offenders who have had a firearm directed
(2) The total number of times that a firearm has been discharged at an offender
(2,a) A breakdown of the ethnicity of offenders who have had a discharged
(3) The total number of times that a taser has been directed towards an offender
(3,a) A breakdown of the ethnicity of offenders who have had a taser directed
(4) The total number of times that a taser has been discharged at an offender
(4,a) A breakdown of the enthnicity of offenders who have had a taser
discharged towards them.”
My response is as follows:
As no timeframe for this information was provided, and we were unable to ascertain a
response regarding the timeframes, we have provided a response that covers the 2017
calendar year. The information you have requested for the 2018 calendar year will soon be
publically available in the 2018 Annual TOR report.
Questions 1, 1a, 2 and 2a – Firearms presentations and shots fired
Please see below table that outlines this information for 2017. A Tactical Options Report
(TOR) ‘event’ is the reportable use of one or more tactical options by an officer, against an
individual. Multiple TOR events can occur at one incident. The Armed Offenders Squads

(AOS) and Special Tactics Group (STG) are exempt from reporting presentations, but not
discharges, of TASER and firearms.
Please note that these numbers are taken from the TOR database which is an active
database and subject to change over time as reports are completed and approved following
review. As a result numbers presented here are provisional and may not equal those totals
reported in the 2017 Annual TOR report.
