Dear  Liam

Re:
Official  information  request  for  University  of  Waikato  law  student  information

I  refer  to  your  official  information  request  dated  9  March  2019  asking  for  information  about  the  University  of
Waikato’s  law  students,  including  Māori  students.

The  information  you  have  requested  is  below  however  please  note  that:
•  A  Māori  student  is  defined  as  a  student  that  has  selected  ‘NZ  Māori’  as  any  of  their  three  chosen  ethnicities
at  the  point  of  enrolment.
•  The   University   of   Waikato   admits   students   directly   into   a   Bachelor   of   Laws   (LLB)   and   therefore   does   not
enrol  students  on  a  ‘pre-‐law’  basis.  In  lieu  of  ‘pre-‐law’  the  University  has  provided  the  number  of  students
that  have  started  the  LLB  for  the  first  time  in  that  academic  year.
