Request for Information
Thank you for your letter dated 28/02/2019 requesting information on the
operations of the Waitemata Police Asian Reference Group. You
requested:
1. I would like to know if Waitemata Police Asian Reference Group stil
in operation and who is the current member on this reference group.
Also how can public express their interest to join this group? How
often this group meet and discuss issue, are they any meeting notes
available.
Your request has been referred to me and re-considered in accordance with
the Official Information Act 1982.
I can advise you that the current correct name of the group you are seeking
information about is the Asian Advisory Board (the board). The board was
established to align with the purpose of police having safer communities
together and in that spirit working with Ethnic Community Group Leaders
and meeting with them three or four times a year to discuss issues of
concern and to try and make sure their groups feel supported by police and
to make their communities safer. The current board was reinvigorated in
2017 by Assistant Commissioner Tusha Penny who was the Waitemata
District Commander at that time. Attached are the minutes of the current
board from 2017 to 2019.
Anyone interested in being a member of the board could write to an existing
member of the board detailing their interest in becoming a board member
and supplying details of their standing as a leader in an ethnic community
for consideration.
