  2.1  DC Naila Hassan welcomed the Board.

EAB members said the meeting has always been held in 
the evening. There was a suggestion to start from 7pm.    
 
2.3  Venkat moved the acknowledgement from the EAB to the  Venkat 
 
 
NZ Police for the stupendous work that was carried out in 
Christchurch since the terrorist attack on the afternoon of 
Friday, March 15, 2019 and the continuous work done to 
give reassurance to the communities in the aftermath.

who supported the organised walk from a Reserve to the

3.2  Total Victimisations have dropped from March 2018

(1618) to February 2019 (1556), a 3.8% decrease.

slide including Theft / Acts Intended to Cause Injury / 
Robbery, Extortion and Related Offences / Burglary

4  Update from the 3 Waitemata Areas 
 
 
 
  4.1  North Area launched the Ethnic People Forum on 06

March 2019 in Orewa.  The response was good. The next 
meeting is set on 11th April. 
Two Chinese Officers plus one Chinese speaker of NZ 
descent were added to the North Area. 
  4.2  Constable Chris Byun was appointed as the Ethnic Liaison  DC Hassan 
 
 
Officer for Waitemata District.  He is of Korean descent

  4.3  Raymond Wong is coordinating a Mandarin Cultural

officers have registered.                                                              
 
Susan responded that the 1st class that was completed

  4.4  Jessica is leading a group of police staff and family

cultural competency components in the tour.  54 people 
have registered.  This is a fully self-funded trip.   
  4.3  DC Hassan introduced Jessica’s new role as Ethnic

Responsiveness Manager who wil  oversee all the Ethnic 
Liaison Officers across TM.  Jessica reports to DC Hassan 
is the lead for the Ethnic portfolio.                                         
Insp. Wil iam Fanene is the new Pacific Responsiveness 
Manager for TM. DC Jill Rogers is the lead for the Pacific 
portfolio.                                                                              
Each district has their own Maori Responsiveness 
Manager.

5  Overview of Police work for Christchurch incident 
 
 
 
  5.1  DC Hassan gave an overview of the responses and work

of the Police immediately after the incident.  Offender was 
arrested 21 minutes after the emergency call was 
received.  DC Hassan was pleased with the response of 
the Police.   
  5.2  DC Hassan has already requested that the National Ethnic  DC Hassan 
 
 
Strategy to be refreshed.  Jessica to send the old Strategy 
to the EAB members.                                                                 
EAB members requested to be consulted when 
developing the new Strategy.                                                                    
  5.3  Insp McIntyre gave an overview of work done on a daily

basis by the Police focusing primarily on the Muslim 
community right from the day of the incident.  There are 
13 mosques plus 3 other centres in the Waitemata District.
