I refer to your email of 6 August 2018 requesting data from the Performance-Based Research 
Fund Quality Evaluation results under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). 
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 
working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to 
meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time 
to make our decision, to 1 October 2018. 
This extension is necessary because the consultations required with the tertiary providers 
whose information is contained in the data requested are such that a proper response 
cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.  Prior to release of any information 
we are required to consult with the individuals whose information is contained within the 
data you have requested. 
At this stage the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has not made any decisions as to the 
release of the information.  After we have heard back from the relevant providers, and 
considered any concerns in relation to the release of their personal information, we will 
advise you of our decision and any proposed charges that may apply in responding to your 
request. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
