Chronology for the Trial Local Advisory Committee (LAC) Land users cluster group
On 7 November 2017, the Fire and Emergency LAC trial team met with a land users cluster to
provide an overview of LACs, to build awareness around the trial and to seek nominees for the trial.
At the meeting it was made clear that Fire and Emergency was seeking nominees for the trial LAC
that were connected over as much of the primary sector as possible and that it was not seeking
nominees who were “representatives” of any particular industry. Fire and Emergency sought to
appoint 6 to 8 members to the trial LAC and therefore any member needed to be able to work
across a range of stakeholders.
Invites to the land users cluster meeting were extended to:
Hawke’s Bay Fruit Growers Assn
Hawke’s Bay Forestry Group
Federated Farmers
Horticulture New Zealand
Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers
Hastings District Council Rural Community Board
Department of Conservation
A representative from the Hawke’s Bay Forestry Group was identified by local Fire and Emergency
managers as a stakeholder who could represent a group whose membership covers much of the trial
LAC area’s forestry sector. This individual was asked to canvas his contacts to seek interest in
participating in the trial LAC.
Following the meeting, the representative from the Hawke’s Bay Forestry Group indicated to Fire
and Emergency NZ, the name of one individual who was likely to submit an expression of interest.
On 16 November, PRFO Trevor Mitchell followed up with said individual for his expression of interest
On 18 November, Fire and Emergency NZ received a late expression of interest from said individual.
