OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST OIA-18-09 – International PhD Completion Rates
I refer to your official information request dated 19 April 2018 for information regarding doctoral completion
rates for international students. You requested the proportion of international PhD students who completed their
doctoral degree and the proportion who dropped out, for students from Canada, India, Indonesia, Malaysia,
China, the United Kingdom and the United States. The information you have requested is provided in the table
below. This has been compiled using data from 2007 to the date of your request.
Outcomes marked as “other” can mean that the student has not yet completed their enrolment, or that the
student has transferred to or completed an alternative programme at UC. “Too early to tell” indicates students
who began the programme too recently to determine an outcome, or students who are still studying towards the
qualification.
These percentages have been rounded up to whole numbers, so in some cases the total may not result in 100%.
