employment commitments, family/health or other personal reasons, financial 
hardship and students who are not recommended for continuation.   
•  “total doctoral enrolments within the calendar year” refers to the total students 
(enrolled in the University or faculty) at any stage of a doctoral programme in a given 
year. 
•  Given extreme variation in size of faculties, the variation in percentages may not be
