Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Department of Conservation, 
dated 19 December 2017. You requested the following: 
 
“Regarding the RMS Niagara, please provide internal departmental reports, papers and 
presentations and submissions to Minister for Conservation; including advice, reports, 
presentations and recommendations.” 
 
Primary responsibility for management of marine Wrecks sits with the Minister of 
Transport. While Department of Conservation staff have been monitoring the situation to 
assess potential risks to marine and bird life, to date it has not been a subject for a great 
deal of Ministerial advice. As a result of the memo below (item 1), the Minister is actively 
liaising with the Associate Minister of Transport on this matter.
