This was a 2007, Hyundai Santa Fe ,7 seater SUV that was parked on the side of the
road outside the owners property. Registration number
.
The OIC located a plastic container containing traces of a flammable liquid at the scene,
the vehicle was unsecured on arrival, the windows were all intact.
The greatest amount of fire damage was to the left front side of the vehicle.
The windscreen, vent grill and bonnet in this area displayed the most fire damage, the
windscreen had cracked, the vent grill had melted and the paintwork on the bonnet near
the windscreen had burnt down to the metal.
under the Official Information Act
The engine compartment displayed minor damage to the plastic hosing and casing on
the passenger side.
There was smoke damage throughout the passenger compartment and fire damage to
the front passenger side  the underside of the dash had melted in this area.  Burn
patterns indicate the fire has travelled into the interior via the vents.
I was unable to locate an ignition source as it had either been consumed or removed.
Based on the information made available at the time of inspection and the resulting
Released
damage indicated that the fire started at the left front exterior of the vehicle and was
deliberately lit by a person or persons unknown.
The classification of this fire has been recorded as incendiary.
