Good afternoon Matthew
Christchurch West Melton Zone Water Management Selection Workshop
Thank you for your application to become a community member of the Christchurch West Melton
Zone Water Management Committee. Your interest is much appreciated, and we would like to
invite you to the next (and final) stage of the process, which is a selection workshop in which you
meet with the selection panel and other applicants, make a short presentation and take part in a
water management related discussion. The panel wil convene at the end of the workshop to agree
on its recommendations, which then need to be ratified by the Christchurch City, Selwyn District,
and ECan Councils.
The selection workshop will be held in the Waimakariri Room, ECan offices 200 Tuam St Christchurch
at 5:00pm on Monday 30 October.
Please advise me as soon as possible if this date is not possible
for you. Offstreet parking is available on the St Asaph St side (entrance off Manchester St into St
Asaph St)
The aim of the workshop is to meet with the selection panel and other applicants and demonstrate
your ability to work collaboratively towards developing water management solutions. Up to five
candidates may be appointed from a field of twelve applicants.
Selection Workshop
The workshop will begin with a meet and greet of applicants and the selection panel. A light meal
will be provided. Fol owing this:
a. Each applicant will make a presentation (see next page) of no longer than five minutes.
b. Two workshop exercises, providing an opportunity for you to show how you can work
collaboratively towards developing water management solutions that deliver environmental,
cultural, social and economic outcomes.
The workshop is expected to finish by 7:30pm or possibly earlier. There wil be ample opportunity to
ask questions of the Zone Facilitator and the panel members.
Presentation
Please prepare a brief presentation (you will be stopped after five minutes) on a water management
approach or project that wil contribute to the delivery of the CWMS. The approach/project you
choose can be of any size or scale; for example covering all or a significant part of the zone, a group
of water users, a stream or catchment (or other water body), or an individual land holder or water
user.
Notes:
a. The CWMS targets cover ecosystem health/biodiversity, natural character of braided rivers,
kaitiakitanga, drinking water, recreational and amenity opportunities, water-use efficiency,
irrigated land area, energy security and efficiency, and regional and national economies. A
particular approach/project is unlikely to deliver ALL the targets, but should significantly help
deliver on some of them and not compromise the achievement of the others. Further
information about the targets and progress on them is availab
le here
b. Introduce yourself at the start of your presentation and indicate your interest in water
management.
c. A data projector and laptop will be available (bring presentation on Memory Stick/USB drive),
but note that it is not necessary to use a PowerPoint presentation if you do not wish to do so.
Notification of Results
You will be advised as soon as possible after the workshop of the decision of the selection panel.
This is likely to be within one or possibly two days after the workshop, unless further consultations
become necessary. The appointment(s) are provisional until they have been formally received by the
Timaru, Waimate and Mackenzie District Councils and Environment Canterbury Council at their
Council meetings, which wil not be completed until mid-December.
New appointments officially begin on 1 January 2018, and conclude on 31 December 2020.
Best wishes
Philippa Beckman
