Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-044335
Thank you for your email of 11 November 2025, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Can you please provide the fol owing information: Are tourists/visitors from other countries
covered by ACC and if yes, why? Also, can you provide the amount of ACC claims (how many
there are and how much money spent) by tourists/visitors annual y from 2015 to 2025
The requested information is attached
When interpreting the data provided, please refer to the notes and caveats included.
Tourists and visitors to New Zealand are covered by ACC. However, you have asked for justification as to
why.
Under the Act a distinction exists between a request for information already known and held by an
agency (official information), versus a request for an agency to form an opinion or provide an explanation
or comment and thus create new information to answer a request (not official information).
Part of your request asks ACC to provide an explanation or justification and is therefore not considered
to be requesting official information under the Act. Accordingly, we are refusing to respond to this part.
