Dear Mr Luke
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request regarding
Disciplinary Panel
We refer to your OIA request relating to the Sport Integrity Commission’s Disciplinary
Panel.
Receipt of your request
We are in receipt of correspondence from the Office of the Ombudsman noting that
you had attempted to make a request to us on this topic on 9 August 2025 through
FYI.org.nz. We are advised that you then purported to make follow up requests
through the same channel on 17 August, 13 September and 2 October 2025.
We have checked with our IT service provider and while the email address for the
Sport Integrity Commission (the Commission) used by FYI.org.nz appears on its face
to be valid, no request (or message of any kind) was received by the Commission from
this organisation either on 9 August or subsequently. That is why he have not
responded until now. We have made inquiries with FYI.org.nz about whether the
request and follow ups were in fact sent to us and are awaiting their response.
As your request was first drawn to our attention through the email of the Ombudsman
on 29 October 2025, that is the date on which we are treating it as being received.
Substantive response
Notwithstanding the apparent communication difficulties, having now received your
request through the Ombudsman, we have expedited our compilation process to
provide you with the information as soon as possible and we set out our substantive
response below.
You requested the following information:
“I noted you have a disciplinary panel, may I request to view your current panel
member's name and their term of appointment. Also how many spot you intend to
have on your panel.

May I ask how you called for public nomination last round and on what platform you
have call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website. A copy of your most recent
ad as well. Also, how many applications you have received for each of the role (in
the most recent recruitment drive) from the public and how many you have received
from other nominating agencies such as TPK or Ministry of women etc for your role.
Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one sent to the previous
appointee. I am happy for you to remove all the personal information.”
Detail of panel
We are in the processing of setting up the inaugural Disciplinary Panel which is
established through the recently passed Integrity Sport and Recreation Act 2023.
Accordingly, there have been no previous appointment prior to the current call for
nominations. We are initially appointing 12 members to our Disciplinary Panel and the
members have been appointed for a period of 5 years.
We are required to post publicly details of the panel members on our website and we
are in the process of gathering information now in order to do this. We expect to do
this in the next 1-2 weeks and you will see this list of members on our website when it
is made public.
Appointment process
Nominations were sought through the following channels:
• Sport Integrity Commission website
• Jobs.govt.nz
• Seek.co.nz
• LawPoints (NZ Law Society publication)
• Commission social media channels being LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.
• Direct messages seeking nominations were also sent to contacts at a wide
range of major sport and recreation organisations (including all National Sport
and Recreation Organisations and New Zealand Olympic and Paralympic
organisations) as well as other public sector organisations with connections to
the Commission’s work.
For each of the above channels, the reader was directed to our website which
contained a summary of the position, a nomination form and a candidate information
form. While this Commission website page is longer live, we
enclose with this
response the following:
• The website copy as published.
• The nomination form.
• The candidate information form.
Applications

3
We received 115 applications. Each of these applications were from individuals
seeking appointment rather than from a nominating agency.
We
enclose a copy of a letter confirming appointment with personal information
redacted.
If you disagree with our response, you can make a complaint and have our decision
reviewed by the Ombudsman:
