[FYI request #28270 email]
Dear Robert
Information Request
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 1 September 2024, in which you
requested the fol owing information:
Please provide any emails, correspondence, communications or otherwise which refer
to the joint conference between the NZ Financial Intel igence Unit and ACAMS and a
private training institution.
Please outline how this joint event came into existence and how much of the event fee
(what percentage of the event fee) the police wil  receive versus how much ACAMS wil
receive.
In regard to the first part of your request, to Police’s knowledge there has never been a private
training institution involved with the joint NZ Financial Intelligence Unit and ACAMS conference,
and the NZ Financial Intel igence Unit cannot locate any emails, correspondence, or
communications within the scope of your request. As such, this part of your request is refused
under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the information requested does not exist.
In regard to the second part of your request, the joint Financial Intelligence Unit and ACAMS
conference came into existence approximately 15 years ago, stemming from a need to build
stronger networks with AMLCFT industry partners, and to share learnings on money laundering,
terrorism financing typologies, and related case studies domestically, and from our international
partners. Police and ACAMS receive no percentage of the event fee, and any surplus from the
conference, funds future joint Financial Intelligence Unit and ACAMS conference events,
training, education, and outreach for reporting entities under the Anti-Money Laundering and
Countering Financing of Terrorism Act 2009.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to the Ombudsman
about this OIA response. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
