Response to your official information request 
Thank you for your official information request received on 19 August 2024. You have 
asked for information regarding the appointment of a member to the New Zealand 
Geographic Board Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa (NZGB): 
Requesting to know how public nominations were called for and on what platforms the 
public nominations were called for e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications were 
received from the public and how many received from other nominating agencies such as 
TPK or Ministry of women etc for the role. How many were shortlisted and how many were 
interviewed. 
The appointment of Dr Michael Abbott to the NZGB has been made under Schedule 1, 
s1(2)(d) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008 
(the Act)

Schedule 1, s1(2)(d) of the Act specifies that the member be a nominee of the Federated 
Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (FMC). FMC provided LINZ with their nominee on 10 
June. No public nominations were sought or received, nor were nominations sought from 
nominating agencies such as Te Puni Kōkiri or Ministry for Women. 
Therefore, your request is refused under section 18(e) of the Official Information Act 1982 
as the information requested does not exist for the reasons outlined above.
