Dear Ms Lynch
Re: Official Information Act Request CDHB/G 9123
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act (1982), dated 24 May 2015 and
transferred to us from the Ministry of Health this morning requesting the following information.
How much money is spent annually on the purchase of hollow-bore needles for use in the NZ
public healthcare system, and who is the provider of these supplies?
What are the numbers and types of hollow-bore needles purchased annually for use in public
health?
How many public health care workers, who have experienced a needle stick injury while in the
workplace, test positive for Hepatitis B Virus (HBV), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), and/or the Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) annually?
Does the Ministry have any plans and/or policies in place to reduce instances of needle stick
injuries in the public healthcare system?
As required under the Official Information Act (1982), the Canterbury District Health Board will
respond to your request within 20 working days. You should therefore receive a response on or
before 25 June 2015.
If a large amount of information has been requested or if the Canterbury District Health Board needs
to consult in order to make a decision, we may need to extend this date (this is provided for in
section 15A of the Act). We will advise you if such an extension is necessary.
Yours sincerely
