We refer to your email of Wednesday 10 July to the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet
in which you request the following under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
1. “…Are you able to provide an accounting of the total funds gone to Ukraine I am
specifically wanting to know who this money is paid to…For example who is this latest
cheque of $16m being written out to and who have all the other cheques been written out
to?
On 17 July 2024, your request was partially transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Trade (MFAT) for response. Please find a response to your request below.
The NZ$16 million in support for Ukraine, announced by the Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign Affairs on 10 July 2024, includes a NZ$2 million contribution to the NATO Comprehensive
Assistance Package to support the medical rehabilitation of Armed Forces of Ukraine personnel. It
also includes a NZ$4 million contribution to the drone capability coalition led by the United
Kingdom and Latvia.
NZ$10 million in humanitarian assistance will be provided through the International Committee of
the Red Cross (NZ$2.5 million), the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund administered by the UN Office for
the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (NZ$5 million), and the United Nations Refugee Agency
(NZ$2.5 million).
New Zealand has not provided any direct funding support to the Government of Ukraine since
24 February 2022.
