Kia ora Lance
The recount process is directly managed by the District Court and the Judge appointed for a recount will contact all
candidates affected by a recount to tell them of the arrangements.
We have been told there will be a recount for Tāmaki Makaurau Māori Electorate, and your candidate should be
contacted shortly.
The Judge will normally brief the candidates ahead of the recount. There is normally also a briefing for the appointed
scrutineers on the process at the start of the recount. Under section 183 of the Electoral Act one or more scrutineers
can be appointed by any candidate affected by the recount.
The Commission has a support role to the Judge who runs the whole process.
I hope that helps.
Ngā mihi

Kia Ora Karl,
We have just been informed that there is a recount requested for the Tāmaki Makaurau Māori Electorate.
Please confirm that this is the case.
If yes, as an impacted party, Te Pāti Māori would have expected a courtesy heads up before this was made public.
Please provide the detailed process for this recount.
Te Pāti Māori will appoint at least two scrutineers to provide oversight on the recount process.
We would appreciate an urgent response to this matter.
Please contact me if you have any queries.
