Hi Geoff been through the paper and note the multi choice questions-they seem fine
overall given the risk that other probable answers could get a tick.Just a thought in
another paper last year on multichoice there were at least three questions which then
asked the students to give their reasons for their choice which I considered a very
good balance.

On the front page under instructions reference is made to 2 marks for the 20
multichoice questions giving a total of 40 while at the top of page 2 reference is
made to questions being given a mark of 2.5 marks for a total of 50 marks-am I
missing something here?

Only other comment is on page 11 reference to 10 marks  under sections B and C-
presume a typo?

Geoff there is a nice blend of cases and no doubt the better students will
excel(hopefully)with question 21.

Best wishes with the exam results-best regards

Subject: equity moderatoion for Victoria University of Wellington 2024

Dear John
I have run Equity in the first trimester this year, and I am afraid that I have been a
little behind, so have just finished the proposed exam now.  Ideally we need to have
it available for printing on Monday. The proposed exam can be found at this
link https://vuw-
my.sharepoint.com/:w:/g/personal/mclayge_staff_vuw_ac_nz/Ea58VxxH49FMlttdONhHzeIBf
Lt0nO6GGH1Y9uBfQE_dHQ?e=uvLRBA which I am assured you will be able to open!
This year the students have all done a 35 % essay on whether the Supreme Court
should allows the appeal in the Kurgar case ( the issue involves what the nature of
the a discretionary trust is and the effect of tikanga on determining that issue
The exam is still subject to just a little bit  of fine tuning - especially in relations to the
Multichoice questions, but I’m hoping that you can see it covers the range of the
prescription etc .
You will that I have persisted with the same multichoice format that I used last
year.  I know that you wondered about the effectiveness of that part of the
exam.  Last years questions produced a very similar curve to our general
expectations, and on the whole students who did well in the MC also did well in the
opinion and the course in general. If you are interested I would be very happy to run
you through that .
I have attached the reading list for you to have a look at .
There is also rumour that the NZSC is about to release Cooper v Pinney, which they
only heard last November, so that is the reason for the rider to the problem
If you have and comments or suggestions I’d be grateful to receive them
Thanks as always for the attention that you pay to this.

Geoff
