Official Information Act request on Halswell Junction 
 
I refer to your request dated 1 May 2023, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the 
Act), asking: 
 
What is the current state of this project? 
When is this project anticipated to be completed? 
What is the main hold-up, if any? 
What is the approximate cost of this project, both to date and by completion, to 
KiwiRail?  
 
As a response, we are providing a timeline of the works for the planned crossing, which 
will be useful in demonstrating how the project has developed. 
 
We are also providing minutes from recent meetings between KiwiRail, Christchurch 
City Council and partners which will give you an overview of the current state of the 
project and matters still to be worked through.   
 
Please note some limited information has been redacted from these  papers  under 
Section 9(2)(i) – commercial information, and Section 9(2)(a) - privacy. 
 
In relation to your query as to costs, these are commercially sensitive and cannot be 
provided.
