[FYI request #22610 email]
Dear Liz
Thank you for your Official Information Act (OIA) request, received on 28 April 2023.
You requested:
•
Any advice provided by the Treasury to Ministers in the last five years on the cost
and benefits of hosting the Commonwealth Games.
•
Any documents provided to Ministers in the last five years which reference the
Commonwealth Games.
The Treasury has not provided any advice on the costs and benefits of hosting the
Commonwealth Games or any other documents on the Commonwealth Games to
Ministers in the last five years. Therefore, we have decided to refuse your request
under section 18(e) of the OIA, as the document alleged to contain the information
requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
In my view, it would have been necessary under section 14 of the OIA to transfer the
second part of your request to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) because the information you requested is more closely aligned with the
functions of the agency. However, we are aware that you have already made your
request to MBIE and therefore we have not transferred it.
Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) may be published on
the Treasury website.
This reply addresses the information you requested. You have the right to ask the
Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision.
Yours sincerely
Siobhan Duncan
