Thank you for your email of 26 November 2022 to the Department of Internal Affairs (the
Department), requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act):
“You have call for nominations on the following positions recently Water Services
Entities Establishment Boards (four) Film and Literature Board of Review
Guardians Kaitiaki of the Alexander Turnbull Library Library and Information
Advisory Commission
May I ask how did you call for public nomination and on what platform you have
call for public nominations, e.g. govt.jobs website. Also, how many applications
you have received from the public and how many you have received from other
nominating agencies such as TPK or ministry of women for each role. How many
you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed for each role.”

Statutory Body:
1. Water Service Entities Establishment Boards
The call for expressions of interest to the four Water Services Entity Establishment Boards was
posted on the Department’s website, on the statutory appointments page.
It was also advertised on the following platforms:
- Institute of Directors website
- Better Board Appointments website
- LinkedIn (Three Waters page)
The call for expressions of interest also went to the following public nominating agencies: Te
Puni Kōkori, Ministry for Women, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, The Treasury, Whaikaha -
Ministry for Disabled People, and the Office of Ethnic Communities.

The Department also sought nominations through engagement directly with mana whenua and
the iwi coalescing within Water Service Entities, and the local government sector via Local
Government New Zealand. Engagement was also made with the key stakeholders of Taituarā
and Water New Zealand who publicised these opportunities widely to their members.
The Department has received 132 nominations to date. The shortlist will be selected by the
Minister of Local Government in due course, and interviews will be arranged accordingly.

The call for expressions of interest for the above statutory bodies was posted on the
Department’s website, on the statutory appointments page.
Please refer to
Appendix A for a list of platforms where expressions of interest were advertised.
Please also find in
Appendix A the number of nominations, the numbers shortlisted and the
numbers interviewed to date. Where there has not been an interview, they will be arranged in
due course as the appointment process progresses.
Information requesting for a breakdown of the number of applications received each from
other nominating agencies would require a significant amount of time and personnel resource
in excess of reasonable expectation. Therefore, this part of your request has been refused under
section 18(f) of the Act as the information cannot be made available without substantial
collation or research.
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the Department intends
on publishing a copy of this response on the Department’s website. Your personal details will
be removed and we will not publish any information that would identify you as the person who
requested the information.
You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this
