Kia ora Susan and Peter,
As you’re no doubt aware, Ara Institute of Technology (in Christchurch) started a pathway
into a Postgraduate Diploma in Osteopathy this year, with the first entry cohort into the
postgraduate qualification in 2020. We have also had conversation with you about AUT’s
intention to begin developing a 4-year degree in Osteopathy, with the intention to begin
delivery in 2020.
Given the size and potential of the Auckland market, rather than competing directly with
AUT, Unitec has decided to begin a slow exit of Osteopathy and will be taking no new
enrolments to our Bachelor programme from 2019.
In making this decision, our primary commitment was that there would be no impact on the
quality of the qualification and experience for current students, nor on the reputation of our
qualification for those who have studied with us in the past. We will continue to deliver the
programme to all current students, so that those who started with us this year will be able
to complete their Unitec qualification, including their Masters, at the end of 2022.
We look forward to continuing to work together to manage our exit carefully over the next
few years so that all of our students, past and present, continue to value their Unitec
qualification. As well as ensure our staff our well supported within the profession and as
academics.
We will be in touch soon to discuss further details about the next steps for collaboration.
Please be in contact if you would like to discuss this further.
Ngā mihi,
