Thank you for your email of 13 October 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following:
1. Can you provide the total Count of EOIs currently in the Parents' residency visa Queued pool.
If you can provide the count of persons, that will be great too, as 1 EOI can have more than
one applicant.
2. Please share the document mentioned in the link below, dated 20 October 2021, regarding
long-term visitor visas for Parents. (link removed for formatting reasons)
3. Please share any other documents related to the discussion or consideration of the
introduction of the longer-term parent visitor visa or any modifications to the existing 3 years
parent and grandparent visitor visa.
4. The MBIE public document library has released documents related to the SMC review, but the
library has no document regarding the recently done review of the Parents Resident Visa.
Could you please release documents for Parent Visa review as you did for SMC. You can
provide documents as a response to this OIA too.
5. In the old EOI, you had provided a breakdown of the Submitted EOI count and Count of EOI in
the queue split by the year month format
a. However, at that time there were no withdrawals
b. Can you provide similar information again in EXCEL format?
6. Can you provide the total count of EOIs submitted before 15 September 2018 and still in the
Queued pool? If you can give the count of persons, that will be great too.
Our Response
On 11 November 2022, MBIE’s Labour Science and Enterprise Group sent a response to your request
providing information to questions two to four of your request and advised you that Immigration New
Zealand would provide a response for questions one, five and size.
The below response contains information for the following questions:
1. Can you provide the total Count of EOIs currently in the Parents' residency visa Queued pool. If you

Our response
Question one.
As at 21 November 2022, there were 5,577 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the Parent Resident Visa
category pool, representing 8,765 people.
Question five.
Please refer to Appendix one for the number of EOIs submitted under the Parent Resident Visa category
for the period 1 January 2015 to 31 October 2022; the data is broken down by month. The data includes
the number of EOIs that were accepted and remain in the pool for that month and those which have been
withdrawn.
Please note there will be duplication across the Family Parent Tier and the Family Parent EOI figures.
This is due to a policy change on 24 February 2020, where all eligible applicants with Family Parent EOI
under the previous policy (Family Parent Tier 1, Family Parent Tier 2) had their Family Parent Tier EOI
consolidated to the new Family Parent EOI.
Additionally, an applicant may have multiple Family Parent Resident Visa category EOIs in the pool at
the same time. An applicant might update their EOI multiple times by submitting a new EOI.
Question six.
As at 21 November 2022, there were 3,525 EOI’s in the Family Parent Resident Visa category pool,
representing 5,734 people, accepted on or before 15 September 2018.
