Tēnā koe James,
Your Official Information Act request, reference: HNZ00005599
Thank you for your email on 31 July 2022, asking for the following which has been considered
under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“The number of nurses employed in DHB hospitals in 2017, the number of nurses
employed in the same hospitals as at 31 July 2022, and how many nurses have left
employment and been hired since 2017.”
I apologise for the delay in providing you with the response.
The information you have requested is attached as Appendix 1. Please note, the Starters and
Leavers count may include people who leave one District to work in another, but due to the
anonymised nature of the Health Workforce Information Programme (HWIP) collection, we are
unable to identify and exclude movements between Districts.
The Health Workforce Information Programme holds data on the Te Whatu Ora Districts' employed
workforce, providing a national, regional, and local picture of the health and disability sector
workforce in terms of its 'stocks and flows'. The following link shows all quarterly DHB/District
reports starting at 2017 until the June 2022 quarter. This information is as at 30 June for each
quarter.
