An officer from Border Clearances informed an Investigator in Auckland of a post on a closed
Facebook group where a woman was bragging that her grandmother has misled border staff in
order to smuggle food items she believed not to be permitted into New Zealand.
The food items are mooncakes containing eggs in the centre. Mooncakes with eggs are permitted 1982
into NZ currently if it has been commercially manufactured and packaged, in its original
packaging, unopened, does not contain mean and does not require refrigeration. There's also a
weight limit of 10kg. You must declare the food item on arrival and they will need to be inspected.
Act
The disregard of Biosecurity rules should be dealt with.

Meeting conducted with 9(2)(a)
on Friday 13/09/19. She advised that the story about
her Grandmother was actually an old family story from several decades ago, her Grandmother
hasn't visited NZ for many years.
Regardless she was advised of the seriousness of misleading Quarantine Officers and served with
Information
an educational letter outlining the regulation and possible penalties (copy attached in matter
documents).
Update provided back to Adar Tabak who made the referral.
