We have received a proposal from a supplier for a temporary instal ation which we believe is feasible to instal at our
plant. Al owing for lead times for supply of imported equipment I’d expect it could take 6 to 9 months to finalise
design, procure and instal .
The estimated capital cost for this would be in the order of $120,000. As this is an unbudgeted service level
expenditure, it may require us to reprioritise spending as part of the 2023 Annual Plan meaning funding may not be
available until 1 July 2022.

We have approached a supplier to provide options and a pricing for a containerised solution. We are hoping to hear
from them this week but it may not be in time to meet your requested deadline by COB tomorrow. Once we get this
it should give us the information you’ve requested below. Also just to clarify based upon you the letter we received
at this stage we are only looking at the New Plymouth supply. We’l provide this information asap once received.

Thank you for your letter. Having discussed your letter with our water engineer here at the Ministry we have a few
further questions for you to inform the Director-General’s decision making.
You note in your letter that if NPDC were required to implement fluoridation in the main NP supply prior to mid-
2026 a temporary instal ation would be required. Are you able to provide information on:
- How long it could take to get a temporary instal ation in place
- What the cost of a temporary instal ation might be (ie: we assume this might differ from your previous
estimates of the costs of a permanent solution).
- Any further information on the feasibility of a temporary instal ation or different options you could consider
(eg. containerised solution).

We acknowledge the difficulty of providing this information with a high level of certainty given the current
environment across the construction sector and the lack of time to undertake further engineering work. However
any information you can provide by COP Thursday 7 July would be much appreciated.
