Thank you for your email
of 1 June 2022 requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
1) The length of time this Google Analytics data is retained for.
2) A copy of the Information Management policy that this data retention period is based upon.
I wil respond to each part of your request in turn.
1) The length of time this Google Analytics data is retained for.
Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency uses Google Analytics to measure website traffic. For
example, the number of visitors to our website, the number of times particular pages are viewed.
There is no Personal y Identifiable Information (PII) captured in Google Analytics and Waka Kotahi
does not store Google Analytics data on our own systems, we access this data through the Google
Analytics website.
The data retention period in our Google Analytics account is set to the default option which is to not
automatically expire.
2) A copy of the Information Management policy that this data retention period is based upon.
Waka Kotahi does not have an Information Management or Data Retention policy that applies as it
does not retain any Google Analytics data. The data is hosted and stored by Google, and we adhere
to its data privacy and security terms.
Therefore, I am refusing this part of your request under section 18(e) of the Act that the document
alleged to contain the information requested does not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it,
cannot be found.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to refuse
part of this request. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
In line with Waka Kotahi policy, this response wil soon be published on our website, with personal
information removed.
