Official Information Act request: Official Information Act requests

Thank you for your email of 16 May 2022 requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act), figures on requests made under the Act. Specifical y, you requested:

“… the accumulative figures for all/every OIA request made to all
ministers/office/departments for the years 2014 up to and including 2022. To clarify, I just

want the total figures of OIA requests not the breakdown for each
minister/office/department.”

On 18 May 2022, you added the following to your request:

“Could you please provide a breakdown of these requests into 3 categories -
Successful; Unsuccessful [and] Unresolved?”

There is no central agency that holds all of the cumulative data you have requested. Therefore, I
am refusing your request under section 18(f) of the Act on the grounds that the information would
require substantial col ation and research.

You can individually request this information from each agency subject to the Act. Contact
information can be found in the Directory of Official Information at: justice.govt.nz/about/official-
information-act-requests/directory-of-official-information/.

The cumulative figures for Ministers is not recorded and would not be able to be collated due to
spanning multiple administrations.

The cumulative figures for agencies was not recorded prior to 2015/2016. However, data from
that time period onwards for all public service departments, Crown agents, independent Crown
entities and autonomous Crown entities that are subject to the Act, is publicly available.

Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission publishes statistics covering government agencies
that are subject to the Act every six months on their website at:
publicservice.govt.nz/resources/official-information-statistics/.

This data can also be found on the Al -of-Government data service website, Data.govt.nz, at:
catalogue.data.govt.nz/dataset/official-information/resource/106a9ff4-d017-470f-9220-
adcf5db4095a.

If you are not satisfied with my response, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman
under section 28(3) of the Act. The Ombudsman may be contacted by email at:
[email address].
