Thank you for your email of 12 May 2022.  
The  Government  of  Aotearoa  New  Zealand  shares  your  concerns  over  a  series  of  troubling 
arrests in Hong Kong under the National Security Law and the shrinking space for civil society 
and political opposition in Hong Kong. 
New Zealand has consistently raised with the Hong Kong authorities its concerns regarding the 
erosion of fundamental rights and freedom in Hong Kong as guaranteed under the Sino-British 
Joint Declaration and the Basic law.  
In line with our independent and value-based foreign policy, New Zealand will continue to raise 
these concerns both in private and in public, including in concert with others.
