Thank you for your email of 5 April 2022 to the Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama
Aotearoa, requesting the following information:
1. All policies, reports and briefings detailing measures to protect people in prison from
Covid-19.
2. Any meeting minutes detailing measures to protect people in prison from Covid-19.
3.
Any communications containing the subject of protecting people in prison from
Covid-19
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
Detailed information and updates about how Corrections is managing COVID-19 in prisons,
including information regarding settings across all of New Zealand’s 18 prisons, as well as
data on vaccinations and current cases, is available on our websit
e here. Your request as it is currently framed is very broad and we would be required to consult
widely to collate the information. Corrections is a large organisation and there are likely to
be thousands of documents within scope of your request held by various operational teams.
As such, we have decided to refuse your request under section 18(f) of the OIA as the
information cannot be made available and would require substantial collation or research.
In accordance with section 18A of the OIA we have considered whether fixing a charge or
extending the time limit would enable us to provide a response. Due to the wide scope
involved in this request we do not believe this would enable the request to be granted.
In accordance with section 18B of the OIA we have also considered consulting you to
remove the reason for refusal. You are welcome to contact us to clarify the scope of your
request and work with us to frame your request in a more practicable way that will allow us
to reconsider our response.

link above.
