We refer to your official information request dated 5 April 2022 for information about the new 
Street Naming Policy. 
During the development of the revised Street Naming Policy, the project team discussed 
consultation and engagement requirements.  Ultimately officers reached the conclusion that 
the requirements of the Local Government Act 2002 had been satisfied. As well as this, 
officers considered the requirement to engage under Council’s Significance and Engagement 
Policy did not apply.  There are no minutes or papers from these meetings which we can 
provide to you. 
Ahead of a committee paper being submitted for a meeting agenda, officers must engage with 
a decision-making checklist which prompts authors to turn their mind to requirements under 
the Local Government Act and Council’s Significance and Engagement Policy. This decision-
making checklist was completed for the Street Naming Policy paper. 
The Director of Strategy and Engagement outlined the basis for this position at the Policy 
Finance and Strategy Committee meeting on 23 February 2022 (available on Hutt City 
Council’s livestream). 
We are withholding one email under section 7(2)(g), to maintain legally privilege.
