Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) (the Act) – reference: OIR 2122-217
I refer to your information request we received on 19 March 2022 or the following:
I'm interested if you have any information on any initiatives there might have been from
the council to brand the Kapiti Coast as the Gold Coast or Golden Coast. I see the
legacy in many business names but can't find any official references to it. It seems to
date back to at least the 70s.
Council response regarding your request On 21 March 2022, we advised you via our acknowledgment of your request that it might be
worth you contacting the Kāpiti Historical Society and NZ Archives. We also provided links to
information on our Libraries website about our local history.
We have further investigated your request and we can confirm that we do not hold any
information relating to rebranding the Kāpiti Coast as the Gold Coast or Golden Coast.
On that basis I must decline your request as the documents alleged to contain the information
requested do not exist, despite reasonable efforts to locate them, they cannot be found section
17(e) of the Act refers.
You have the right to request the Ombudsman to review this decision. Complaints can be sent
by email to
