POSITION DESCRIPTION: MEMBER OF THE SUSTAINABLE FOOD AND FIBRE FUTURES
INVESTMENT ADVISORY PANEL
Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures (
SFF Futures) supports problem-solving and
innovation in New Zealand’s food and fibre sectors by co-investing in initiatives that
make a positive and lasting dif erence.
The SFF Futures Investment Advisory Panel (
IAP) is an independent body appointed
by the Minister of Agriculture. The IAP plays an important role in the success of SFF
Futures, by providing expert advice regarding funding proposals and active projects.
Role of the IAP
The role of the IAP is to:
a) assess applications and (where applicable) business cases and make funding
recommendations to MPI;
b) advise MPI on the management of SFF Futures investments and legacy Primary
Growth Partnerships, and recommend adjustments if required;
c) provide advice to MPI on the overall management of SFF Futures; and,
d) engage with industry stakeholders of SFF Futures, in accordance with a
communications strategy developed by MPI.
In carrying out its role the IAP wil :
a) act in accordance with procedures agreed or mandated by MPI;
b) comply with relevant MPI policies as advised from time to time;
c) maintain the confidentiality of confidential material submitted to it or obtained in
carrying out, or incidental to, its functions; and
d) comply with legal requirements.

IAP Membership
Members are selected to ensure a diverse panel in respect of experience, skil s and
demographics.
Across the IAP, the skil s and attributes we’re looking for include:
• general knowledge and understanding of NZ’s primary industries –
capabilities, challenges, and opportunities
• experience in Māori agri-business
• experience in the business, science, community and government sectors
• experience in developing and commercialising food, fibre and agri-business
products and technology
• knowledge of current and future trends in New Zealand and international
food, fibre, and agri-business markets
• knowledge of agri-business capability and training in New Zealand
• understanding of environmental sustainability principles and challenges
• understanding of government strategy, frameworks and policy.
Each individual IAP member
must have the following skil s and attributes:
• understanding of the principles of governance, public accountability and risk
management
• effective communication skil s, including the ability to reason objectively and
convey ideas clearly and accurately
• strong relationship management skil s, including working effectively with
peers.
