Response to your official information request 
Thank you for your official information request received on 4 February 2022 for the 
forestry conversion review and names of people and businesses approved by the 
Overseas Investment Office under the ‘special forestry test’. 
You were advised on 10 February 2022 that the first part of your request was transferred 
to The Treasury. 
Please provide the names of the people or businesses who were approved to buy 
under the "special forestry test"? And what if any conflicts of interest may be 
involved? 
Regarding the second part of your request, outlined above, please note that that 
information can be found on our decision summaries, which are published monthly on 
our website at www.linz.govt.nz/overseas-investment/latest/latest-decisions/search-
decision-summaries. Decision summaries provide information on all applications that 
have been decided by the Overseas Investment Office. 
As such, please find attached as Appendix One a copy of 92 decisions which have been  
made under the ‘special forestry test’ pathway. You can enter these case numbers into the 
webpage above to find out more information on specific applications. 
Regarding your query on conflicts of interest, Land Information New Zealand has a 
conflict of interest policy for al  staff. This ensures any perceived, real or actual conflicts 
are identified and appropriately managed. Assessors who work on special forestry test 
applications are aware of this policy and are expected to raise any conflicts they may have 
with a particular application to management in the first instance.
