Dear John REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
Thank you for your email dated 19 January 2022 requesting: With respect to the "Consent to Assume Online Internet Identity" form (a sample of which has been provided in response to OJA request IR-01-21- 36948), please provide any policy, operational procedural and/or internal guidance document(s) on the usage of such form.
I have considered your request in accordance with the Official Information Act
1982 (OIA).
As this process is conducted by way of consent, there is no specific approval
process in force that governs the use of this document. In essence, the document
is one method by which Police can record actions undertaken through consent as
it relates to online accounts. Alternatively, Police can record any interactions in
their notebooks and in written statements provided by individuals to achieve the
same outcome.
I have attached an excerpt from the Police internal intranet page relating the
Police Online Child Exploitation across New Zealand (OCEANZ) team. The form
is accessible on this intranet page and is accompanied with a brief explanatory
paragraph. Some information is withheld from this document pursuant to section
6(c) of the OIA on the basis that its release would prejudice the maintenance of
the law. Police National Headquarters 180 Molesworth Street. PO Box 3017, Wellington 6140, New Zealand.
